FAQs
I recommend that clients use QuickBooks Online for several reasons. When a client invites me to be their accountant within QuickBooks, I am able to access their books remotely to categorize transactions, do cleanup, reconcile bank and credit card statements, run reports and more. By linking your bank and credit cards to QuickBooks Online, transactions will be automatically and continuously uploaded into your QuickBooks Online file. I am also QuickBooks Online certified, meaning that I have completed training provided by QuickBooks/Intuit.
Yes, I can work with QuickBooks Desktop files, though it is a bit more challenging when working remotely. If you have a QuickBooks Desktop file that needs cleanup, we can discuss the logistics of file transfers.
Yes, as long as you can provide me with your data in spreadsheet format (Excel or CSV), I can upload the data into QuickBooks Online. This includes vendor and customer data, transactions, chart of accounts, lists of products and services, and even past invoices. You can also start fresh in QuickBooks Online and leave out old transactions if you’d like.
The best time is right at the beginning of your tax or fiscal year. If you have previous data that can be uploaded into QuickBooks, that can be done too. I’ve done “cleanup” jobs for people so that they can get their taxes filed. A conversion from QuickBooks Desktop to Online can be done at any time.
Although I am a CPA and formerly prepared tax returns for individuals and small businesses, I am not currently offering this as a service. However, I can prepare year-end reports that you can hand off to your tax accountant or to do your own taxes. Your tax accountant will appreciate having your data organized!
My fees are based on the kind of job you’d like me to do. If you are new to QuickBooks Online, setup/onboarding can cost between $300 for QuickBooks Self-Employed to $950 for QuickBooks Online Plus depending on the complexity/needs of your business. Ongoing bookkeeping costs are based on the number of transactions per month, and are between $100 to $250 per month. I can also include the cost of your QuickBooks subscription which would be an extra $10 to $75 per month, depending on the QuickBooks subscription type.
Every QuickBooks Online subscription has different features. I can usually help potential clients determine which one would be best after a 30-minute consultation. This site provides a description of what each level offers: QuickBooks® Online Pricing & Free Trial | Official Site (intuit.com) I recommend scheduling a consultation with me before buying it yourself; as a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, I can offer clients ongoing discounts if initially purchased through me.
I understand your concern! I had been using QuickBooks Desktop for over 20 years, and when I first saw QuickBooks Online, I didn’t think I’d like it. Like anything new, it takes time to get used to. Now that I’ve been using it for a while, I appreciate the flexibility it has. I can create and send an invoice to a client on my phone from anywhere, and I can even use it to track my business mileage. One of my favorite features is the ability to email business expense receipts or take pictures of them and send them right to your QuickBooks file. And as your accountant, I can access your books from anywhere to keep your books up-to-date and clean; no more sending files back and forth. QuickBooks Online is the way of the future!
During the consultation, I will ask questions about your business, such as:
- What is the nature of your business?
- What do you sell/what services do you provide?
- Is it a new or established business?
- How do you currently track your financial transactions?
- Do you keep track of inventory?
- Do you invoice your customers?
- Do you track payables?
- Are you on the cash or accrual basis?
- How many bank accounts does your business have?
- Do you have separate accounts for business/personal?
- Approximately how many transactions do you have per month?
- Are you up-to-date on your business tax returns? Do you need clean-up of past transactions to file a return?
- What services are you interested in?
I can also answer questions about my accounting skills and experience so that you can feel comfortable hiring me to work with your business.
